Butterfly as the zoological term imago implies, alternates between aesthetic and natural categories. In contemplation on the connection between symmetry, patterns and colours serving mimetism or mimicry and painting, butterfly wings may defy the traditional division into the natural, cultural, biological and aesthetic.
